Challenge
A regional multi-disciplined engineering firm, offering engineering consulting services
from four offices in the St. Louis metro area and one in Springfield, Missouri,
was faced with poor technology support and required a roadmap for future technology
needs. This company provides geotechnical and construction inspection and materials
testing services to a growing number of repeat clients. The company's capabilities
also include work in environmental, natural, and cultural resources to provide a
full suite of services to its clients during all project phases .
Solution
Secure Data was able to assist this client by first assessing the needs of this
growing organization and building a set of priority tasks. The resource plan required
to support this work included a chief information officer-level project manager
to pull together the vendors, systems, technologies, and requirements to make this
project a success and a network engineer/administrator to carry out the day-to-day
implementation from an out- to in-sourced IT model. All aspects of IT were assessed
and reviewed for current and future needs. Areas of specific focus during this project
included network support, application support and upgrades, mobile computing, email
support, data center upgrade and migration, file and print sharing, customer relationship
management, and web-based portal collaboration.
Results
This firm has seen customer service improvements in all areas of technology support.
In addition, a road map that provides a clear path to leverage its current IT investment
for future growth is in place. The organization is now structured to utilize IT
as a differentiator in the competitive engineering field. The key contractor utilized
during this project was hired by the client and has become a permanent resource
to deliver future technology needs.
